Creating groups and setting default dashboards

Groups allow you to organize individual users in order to quickly share Klips, dashboards, and data sources. When you share these resources, you will always share them with an entire group rather than a single user. Creating and managing groups is an important part of Klipfolio. You will be able to manage groups in the Users section.

Creating groups

As you create groups, you will be able to provide a name and description to help distinguish different sharing groups. As well, you will need to add members to the group from your existing database of users.

  • Use Only: Users can only use the resource in a limited way, such as building Klips. They may not make edit or share the resource with other users.
  • Use and Edit: Users have full privileges associated with the resource and may use, update, edit, share, or delete the resource.
  • To create a new group

    1. Click on the Users link on the Dashboard page.
    2. Select the Groups tab.
    3. Click the Create a Group button.
    4. Provide a name for the group.
    5. Select users to add to the group.
    6. Click the Save button.

    The new group is created.

    Setting up default dashboards

    Once you have created a group, you can manage that group’s default dashboards. Setting up this dashboard will control which dashboards each group member sees on their account. This is beneficial for data experts setting up dashboards that others can effectively monitor.

    1. Click on the Users link on the Dashboard page.
    2. Select the Groups tab.
    3. Click on the appropriate group’s name.
    4. Click the Dashboards link in the side-panel on the left.
    5. Click the Share a dashboard with this group link.
    6. Select one or more Dashboards to share.
    7. Under the Visibility option, select Add to dashboards option.
    8. Edit the Index value to determine the order the dashboards are shown on the main account page.
    9. Click the Save button.

    The default dashboards are set and will be the first thing members of the specified group will see when they log in to Klipfolio.
