Klipfolio Ideas

Share ideas and vote on new features for the cloud version of Klipfolio. Please note: You only have 10 votes per forum; so use them wisely!

I have an idea:

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

  1. Reference values to other klip

It would be an awesome feature to add reference values to other klips. Sometimes you need to use a value/formula that you already calculated in another klip. This feature would save an enormous amount of time in building klips

  2. Use key/index from JSON source as value in charts/data

Currently to use the indexes from a JSON feed as values/labels for your graphs you have to write crazy complicated JOIN/MAP/CONCAT functions.

Given the JOSN-object {[ foo: 6, bar: 4]} it would be epic to simply be able to display this using graphs where the index was the label/group. I.e. one column 6 high for "foo" and another 4 high for "bar", or a pie chart with 60% "foo" and 40% "bar".

Would make working with feeds where the index is the denominator a LOT easier, like dated indexes or arrays of occurrences of items in groups etc.

  3. time calculations smaller than days

I report on data that is tracked smaller than days.

We need to know messages a second or minute or hour.

All your date functions are for DAYS.

I would like COUNT_MINUTES or similar for current hour and difference ranges.

This could be solved for having date conversion to UNIXTIMESTAMP and then similar to this:
    SELECT UNIX_TIMESTAMP() - UNIX_TIMESTAMP(datetime_col)

The only way at the moment is to slice the data up and this is not very practical.

  4. Evaluating null variables

I think there is a need for improved evaluation of null values in variables, e.g. using a ISNULL() and IFNULL() type of functions. The currently available variable features and functions can be leveraged to create a much better user experience if conditions like "if ISNULL(variable) then display something else ...." can be dynamically evaluated. Of course one can write 'if variable = "" then ...' now but it is kludgy at best

  5. SET() once for a whole dashboard

It would be interesting to have the ability to use the SET() function once and refer to the value throughout all klips within a dashboard. For example, I'm referencing a maxDate variable several times in most of my klips. Actually, I have to enclose each of my formulas into a SET(...). I would imagine a dashboard configuration where we could have a list of "set variables for all klips in this dashboard" - any klips referencing that variable would use the given value by default unless overwritten.

  6. Update time stamp

A simple addition that appears on the Klip letting user know the last time the data was updated without having to click through menus.

  7. Dynamic indexing for spreadsheets

Would be nice to be able to select a row/column of a spreadsheet based on another variable or a parameter instead of having to select it explicitily in the formula.

  8. Populate dashboard wide variable with formular

I want to be able to create a dashboard wide variable which is populated by a formular when the dashboard reloads (or in time sequence as data sources).

The purpose is to be able to define variables containing the start and end date of the meassurement period for all the klips, so I do not need to do the same calculation of dates in every klip.

    start_date = DATE_STARTOF( TODAY( "GMT+1000"), "week", -1, "Monday")
    end_date = DATE_ADD(start_date, "day", 6)

  9. Have Date Picker handle Formulas to Calculate defaults for Start and End

A formula to set the default value in the date picker so that the dashboard will load with a specific default timeframe. Then the user could change it.

If I am interpreting this correctly, it sounds like you are looking for a way to handle relative time/date ranges.

I am exploring how we can make working with dates more simple. One concept is to try to weave in the concept of relative time into things like date-centric user input controls.

Does this sound like what you are asking about? If not , can you describe the scenario in a little more detail?

    Thanks, Scott.

  10. Connectivity to Facebook ads

We would really need to get these costs directly in klipfolio in the same way geckboard does it would be great.

  11. Define value (text) colors when setting indicatiors

I have set indicators to color bars on graphs according performance (red, yellow, green). When the bar is red, the black text color is not visible enough. When setting the indicators, I would like to be able to define also the text color.

  12. Keep colours of area lines distinct when stacking them

I notice that area lines are semitransparent, so that a blue and red line with almost the same value (say 3 and 3.2) will have a purple area from 3.0 and below. I find this is fine.

But when I stack them, I want to be able to see blue from 0 to 3.0 and red from 3.0 to 6.2. At the moment, the colours still blend, so that whichever graph is on top of the stack (listed 2nd as a series) affects the colours of the area lines below it.

If you look at a stacked bars, the colours…

    Hi Michael,

Can you can you send in an example of what you are experiencing and some information about your environment (including the browser and version you are using)?

The colours should remain distinct. I just tried this and saw the colours as distinct.

    Thanks.

  13. Line graphs: Set Y-axis decimal places independently for series and axis labels

For line/bar graphs, I have lines I want to display with 3 decimal points, so I set Y-axis properties to be 3. But while I have values of 3.224 or similar on the line series, the Y-axis display on the left is labelled 1.000, 2.000, 3.000, 4.000 when 1,2,3,4 would do.

I have tried ROUND and NUMBERFORMAT options and that doesn't work. The values are on line and on the axis label are either both 0 decimal places, or both 3 decimal places.

  14. Add colored border to layout grid.

It would be great to have the option to have layout grids with borders with custom colors and thickness in order to group different components visually.

When we introduced the Layout Grid component, we also introduced the Separator component. In the short term, you should be able to use the separator component to add coloured lines of different thickness in Layout Grid components (putting it in cells that span rows or columns, and changing the width of cells to avoid the lines taking up lots of space.)

That said, will review this option as well.

  15. Pre-Condition Data

I need to pre condition data before run it through Klipfolio and my data vendor is no good at exporting "usable files" as a datasource... Obviously it need to be automatic but I need more excel type functionality to INCLUDE or EXCLUDE, SORT or FILTER multiple rows and columns of data without having to create MEGA nested formulas that only sometimes work (probably my fault).

I'm sure some of the complexity could be solved with using a JSON or XML file in particular circumstances but I'm sometimes at a loss as to what the best file type is to achieve…

  16. Fiscal year from DATE_UNITVALUE function

It would be great if the DATE_UNITVALUE function could return the fiscal year if a month is chosen for the 'first' parameter.

    For example:

    DATE_UNITVALUE( DATE( 2014-01-01, "yyyy-MM-dd" ) , year, February) = 2014

    DATE_UNITVALUE( DATE( 2014-02-01, "yyyy-MM-dd" ) , year, February) = 2015

  17. Use variabels in Xpath query

Is it possible to add a variable into a Xpath for example: //record[@Name='This should be a variable']/expr0
This way it's way more efficient to build period or user related dashboards.

  18. Random number generator

As in Excel It would be helpful to have a function which generates a random number between 0 and 1 eg. Rand() and one which generates a random number between two set values e.g. RandBetween(low, high).

We’re looking at a feature that would let users set up actions when conditions are met.

  20. edit, copy and paste formulas; rearrange series and add components

entering a formula step by step might be a safe way to get a solid input, sometimes it is really terrifying that you can not edit it using your curosr keys and copy ans paste partys of one formula into the other; maybe a formula editor mode or something like that could help us out

also, when you want to rearrange series it wuld be great to have a some small buttons facilitating a reorder like you allready have with columns in a table

and most of all, if you want to add a component, now you have to enter…

The components work was addressed with a release in the summer of 2014.

Within formulas, you can currently copy and paste sections of the formula by selecting them and using CTRL + C to copy and CTRL + V to paste elsewhere. We have making this more visible and easier as an item on the roadmap.

Rearranging series also exists as it’s own topic. (See “Series Ordering in Klip Editor”) This is also on our radar for development in the future.
